Overview[edit]

Babel was described by Belphegor in Lesson 43-1 (NB) as "the Celestial Realm, but at the same time, it's not." Of those residing in the Celestial Realm, only Seraphs know that Babel exists. In the Devildom, only members of the royal family know of Babel. Presumably very few from the Human World knows of Babel's existence, and Beelzebub said that he hadn't heard of any humans going to Babel. Solomon did know about Babel, despite saying in Lesson 43-6 (NB) that he'd never visited the place himself.

Solomon also said in Lesson 43-6 (NB) that a group of people seeing audience with their deity built a tower in Babel, and that the ruins of said tower are apparently still there.

Babel is compared to Cocytus by Lucifer in Lesson 44-2 (NB), and he stated that while the latter is a place of punishment, Babel is "a place of solace and bliss." Whatever would bring someone "true happiness" is made real in Babel, even if for only a short while. Lucifer also stated that it is impossible for anyone to lie in Babel.

Entering Babel[edit]

The entrance to Babel can be found in the Human World, though it is always moving and never stays in one place for long. Knowing the time and place where the entrance appears is difficult, and Solomon commented in Lesson 43-3 (NB) that doing so could take several centuries.

Those who visit Babel must first undergo judgement in order for the gates of the entrance to open. According to Lucifer in Lesson 43-8 (NB), "All are free to enter, but none may enter freely." There seems to be no permanent position of judge, and who does the judging in each case seems to vary. This is likely due to it requiring powerful magic to find Babel's entrance and it being extremely rare for anyone to reach Babel's gate, as mentioned in Lesson 43-10 (NB). The actual process of judging those wanting to enter also seems to vary.

There are dire consequences to those who do not pass judgement and are deemed unworthy to enter Babel. These potentially include being "banished from the Earth" as mentioned in Lesson 43-10 (NB), or being trapped outside the gates for eternity or even "left to rot in Cocytus" as mentioned in Lesson 43-8 (NB).

Story[edit]

Nightbringer[edit]

This section may include spoilers.

After Asmodeus won in the Devildom Information Science portion of the RAD Science Fair, he asked Diavolo for his wish: his family being able to visit the Celestial Realm. Diavolo instead arranged for the next-best thing, and that was the seven brothers and MC visiting Babel. After passing the test to make it through Babel's gates, everyone spent time enjoying Babel's ability to at least briefly give them moments of bliss in Lesson 44.

However, at the end of their trip Raphael arrived, and Mammon asked if he could stay longer to search for treasures. Raphael commented that doing so could mean his soul wouldn't return to his body, which caused Satan and the others to realize only their souls had visited Babel. They'd apparently left their bodies behind, though Lucifer had already suspected this.
