Diavolo
"The only child of The Demon King and the most powerful being in the Devildom. He is also president of the RAD student council."
— Diavolo's Student ID
Diavolo is a demon whose first appearance in Obey Me!'s Main Story and Nightbringer's Main Story was in Lesson 1-1. He is next in line to rule the Devildom after his father, the Demon King. While he is considered a side character in both Obey Me! and Nightbringer, Diavolo was added to Obey Me!'s Intimacy system in December of 2020 as part of the Happy Devil Day celebration. In the later released Nightbringer, he is part of the Intimacy system from the start.
Appearance[edit]
Diavolo has short, layered hair with bangs and a part on the right side. In his humanoid form, his hair is auburn red, but the color turns a more saturated venetian red in his demon form. His skin color too changes from beige in his humanoid form to a darker taupe tone in his demon form. His eyes are a gradient of sunshine yellow (ironically) and pale yellow, and his nails are painted black.
As seen in the official height chart, Diavolo is the tallest of the side characters, and is also taller than Lucifer.
RAD Uniform
Diavolo's RAD Uniform is similar in style to the standard uniform, however reverses the typical colors of the charcoal grey jacket and red shoulder cape, so that instead his jacket is red and the shoulder cape is charcoal grey. The jacket is also much longer than the standard uniform, and reaches past his knees.
The gold accents of the typical uniform remain, though the ribbon on his right shoulder is blue and white instead of red and white. His pants are still charcoal grey with red stripes along the sides. His belt is completely red, rather than the standard charcoal grey with a red border.
The shirt he wears beneath his jacket is also charcoal grey instead of teal, which he has paired with a white tie. His leather shoes are the standard charcoal grey.
Diavolo's School Uniform is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it is unlocked by default. In Nightbringer, it can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card The Seven Apples.Diavolo's RAD Uniform is similar in style to the standard uniform, however reverses the typical colors of the charcoal grey jacket and red shoulder cape, so that instead his jacket is red and the shoulder cape is charcoal grey. Diavolo's demon look was first revealed in Lesson 8-8 of Obey Me!'s Main Story, and is his standard appearance in Nightbringer. In this form, Diavolo has a pair of horns with a segmented pattern, and are a gradient of blood red and black. The horns grow outward from behind Diavolo's head before curving such that the tips point inward towards his face. The end points of the horns are covered in gold-colored metal decorations.
Diavolo also has two pairs of bat-like wings, and similar to his horns, are blood red at their bases that fades to black once reaching mid-wing. The "thumbs" of each wing ends in a large spike that has similar gold decorations to Diavolo's horns.
In addition to Diavolo's skin tone darkening and his hair becoming a more saturated red, there are also black, looping markings that appear on Diavolo's chest and back in his demon form, as well as gold-colored markings on each of Diavolo's wrists and forearms, which are similar in appearance to bracers.
Diavolo's outfit when in demon form consists of a wide, decorative black and gold choker with gold accents, connected to a gold chain that runs down the middle of both his chest and back before wrapping around to connect at his sides. The gold chain also connects in front of his chest to a jeweled pendant and several pairs of decorative gold, bat-like wings that join the ends of a black fur stole. He wears a black skirt with gold lining, gold triangle decorations, and gold chains that drape around his waist with connected jeweled pendants. A white and gold cloth drapes over the skirt's front, beneath which are a pair of white pants. He wears black knee-high boots with gold accents and gold soles.

Diavolo was first seen in his Human World look in Lesson 47-9 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a black, collared shirt under a gunmetal grey, single-breasted suit jacket with two black buttons on the center front. The notched lapels have a striped pattern of gunmetal grey and onyx grey. Draped over his shoulders like a cape, Diavolo wears a wine red coat with an onyx grey and granite grey houndstooth patterned lining.
The pants of his suit are the same gunmetal grey as the jacket, and his shoes are black with wine red laces. The tie he wears is also wine red, and has a gold tie clip attached. On his left wrist, Diavolo wears a silver and gold watch that — according to Beelzebub in Issue 8 of the RAD Newspaper — is as expensive as 100 years' worth of roast Roc.

Despite being one of the most powerful demons in the Devildom as well as the Future King, Diavolo takes on a surprisingly fair and compassionate, if not joyous, attitude at almost all times. However, that is not to say he is a soft or lenient ruler, as even without the threat of retribution from Lucifer, all demons appear respectfully intimidated by him.
Diavolo proves to have much more wisdom than his cheerful demeanor suggests. He shows moments of solemn clarity in which he correctly predicts events that will occur in the future either due to his subtle encouragement or his intentional lack of intervention. He has the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth and has made a rule for himself to never tell a lie.
The goals that Diavolo sets for himself, his fellow demons, and the three worlds at large, appear to be pursued with the utmost best intentions. This is evidenced by the fact that so far he has only ever done what he believes is best, with the desire to improve the lives of those he rules over, even if the process is painful.
Sometimes Diavolo may take statements literally. An example of this occurs in the chat A Task Meant for Levi when Leviathan says that he would "kill" for a new piece of technology to mess with. Diavolo shows great concern for Leviathan's mental state and Leviathan has to clarify that he is not actually having violent urges.
In the chat, Wakeup Shakeup 2, Diavolo mentions that he considers the hour within someone has woken up to be "right after" they wake up. If MC disagrees, Diavolo is delighted, and wonders if it is a difference between demons and humans or if they simply don't see eye to eye. He thinks that the small differences between species (or individuals) are fascinating.

Powers and Abilities[edit]
Diavolo is the heir to the Devildom throne and one of the most powerful beings in the Devildom. As such, he possesses unique and impressive abilities. In Lesson 4, Satan explains that Diavolo has the ability to "discern whether someone is telling the truth." Diavolo uses this ability to confirm MC was not lying to Leviathan during the TSL Trivia Showdown. He also uses this ability in the Devilgram The Glory Days in order to successfully navigate a conversation with the at the time distrustful Archangel Lucifer.
Another example of Diavolo's immense power is shown in Lesson 14. After the Great Celestial War, Lucifer fell into the Devildom and upon arrival, he demanded Diavolo save a wounded Lilith's life, knowing he had the means to do so. Diavolo reincarnated Lilith's soul as a human, and sent her to the Human World to live out the rest of her life.
In Lesson 40-15, with only a snap of his fingers, Diavolo was able to teleport himself, all seven brothers, Barbatos, Luke, Simeon, Solomon, and MC from the House of Lamentation to The Fall.
As Lucifer stated in the Pop Quiz The Final Countdown, only Diavolo is a powerful enough demon to be able to stop time itself, which is exactly what he does in that event. Other than those Diavolo chooses to be exempt, the stopping of time results in everyone being stuck frozen in place, and also causes electronics like D.D.D.'s and televisions to stop working.
In the chat Tales of Heroism, Diavolo mentions speaking with a dragon, which may indicate that he has the ability to communicate with magical creatures.
In the Pop Quiz Calling out to You, Diavolo is shown to have the ability to trap people inside objects. Lucifer specifically mentions that it would take a very crafty person to pull that off. In the Devilgram The Ghost Ship, it's mentioned that Diavolo also has the ability to seal objects inside of other objects. Diavolo had sealed a ghost ship called the Carouche inside a glass bottle. If the seal is broken, such as if the bottle is shattered, the ghost ship returns to the Human World.
In the Pop Quiz Sun, Sea, and Demons, it is revealed that Diavolo owns a private beach which has its own artificial sun. Diavolo created the sun with his magic, as well as the beach itself. As he demonstrated in the Devilgram Diavolo the Otaku, he is also able to temporarily light up the area around him as if it were day.
Diavolo is capable of transforming objects with magic, as he was able to turn a lion doll into a sheep plushie in the Devilgram Diavolo the Otaku.
Summoning meteor showers at will is also something Diavolo is able to do, as mentioned in the Pop Quiz A Star for You, and demonstrated in the Devilgram Special Star Candies.
Story[edit]
Background[edit]
As he tells MC in Lesson 56, Diavolo grew up very sheltered and isolated. His mother died after giving birth to him, and his father was always very strict with him. He never had the chance to speak to anyone outside the castle until he met Barbatos. After meeting him, Barbatos began to tell Diavolo stories about the outside world, which he liked so much that he asked Barbatos to stay with him. Although this was always refused by Barbatos, Diavolo never gave up. Eventually, he convinced Barbatos to stay by telling him that he would not become the Future King of the Devildom otherwise.
Little is known about Diavolo's past, but his goal has always been to build a better relationship between the three realms. He had met Lucifer when he was an angel in the past and was quite courteous towards him, despite the high ranking angel's contempt for him.
After the Great Celestial War, when the brothers fell from grace, he and Barbatos appeared before Lucifer and a dying Lilith in an area which would later be RAD's colosseum. At Lucifer's request, he would save Lilith, but in return for the risk of interfering with the Celestial Realm's judgment, Lucifer would have to pledge his loyalty to Diavolo. Lucifer agreed, and Diavolo had Lilith's soul reincarnated as a human.
Although his father, The Demon King, is still alive, he has no interest in the affairs of the three worlds. He allows Diavolo full reign over the Devildom, choosing instead to sleep at the bottom of the Devildom.
As a result, it is taken as truth that Diavolo will be crowned as the Future King of the Devildom. As such, Diavolo has begun strengthening the Devildom's relationship with both the Human World and the Celestial Realm through the exchange program, as he believes that the three worlds should live harmoniously with each other.
Obey Me!'s Main Story[edit]
Lessons 1-20[edit]
In a place that looks like a courtroom, MC is confused to suddenly find themselves being welcomed to the Devildom by Diavolo. He explains to them that he is "the ruler of all demons" and that MC has been brought to the Royal Academy of Diavolo, aka "RAD."
He then introduces Lucifer — his right-hand man and the "Avatar of Pride" — who explains the situation further. Diavolo has come up with an exchange program that is intended to strengthen the Devildom's relationship with the Human world and the Celestial Realm. As one of the four exchange students joining RAD, MC will stay in the Devildom for one year while working on school tasks. He then tells MC they'll be staying with Lucifer and his brothers in the House of Lamentation during their time in the Devildom, before letting Lucifer explain the further details of their stay.
It is later told to MC after leaving the student council room with Mammon that Diavolo is the only member of the student council not living at the House of Lamentation.
The day after MC makes a pact with Mammon, Diavolo, Barbatos and Lucifer are discussing all the gossiping surrounding the pact. He comments that gossiping is a good thing as it will be because it will be harder for a demon to try to steal their soul while everyone is watching them so closely. This brings up how poorly Mammon is suited for the job of guardian and further comments from Lucifer about him being a troublesome brother. Diavolo teases that "the most thick-headed child is always the cutest".
Simeon and Luke interrupt their conversation and Diavolo introduces them to MC. He tells them that they are both angels from the Celestial Realm, and while introducing Luke teasingly asks if he is a chihuahua or an angel. He tells MC he is glad to see things are going well so far before leaving with everyone, except Luke, for class.
After MC challenges Leviathan to a contest to see who is the bigger TSL fan the contest is held in the student council room with Diavolo as the judge. He seems to have fun watching the contest but ultimately doesn't have to judge as the contest ends in a tie after Levi attempts to attack MC after their trump card.
In Lesson 6-6 Beelzebub tells MC that Diavolo stopped Lucifer from attacking them after they shielded Beelzebub and Luke from him. The scene is not shown, but Beelzebub urges them to thank Diavolo for saving them later.
The next day at RAD, Diavolo announces in a student council meeting that there's going to be a retreat held at the Demon Lord's Castle. He tells everyone at the meeting that this retreat will allow humans, angels, and demons to interact and spend more time with each other. Diavolo tells MC that the castle is where he lives, but he does not comment on any of the commentary from the others regarding the particulars of the castle.
He and Barbatos welcome everyone to the castle for the exchange where he starts by confirming that a solution had been mediated regarding the incident in the underground tomb before having Barbatos explain the plan for the retreat. When the rooms are announced and Lucifer asks why they were assigned a room together he cheerfully replies that it is a retreat of course.
During the castle tour, Diavolo comments that he hasn't seen the Demon King, his father, for several hundred years and that he is slumbering at the bottom of the Devildom. During the tour, he continues to make various comments regarding the pieces in the castle, such as a painting that was made around the time he first met Lucifer. Diavolo happily recalls meeting Lucifer for the first time, and how awe-inspiring, divine, beautiful, breathtaking, and magnificent he was. He also strangely seems pleased to remember how he wouldn't even shake his hand when they first met.
Further into the tour, a talking painting interrupts. It turns out to be an ex-girlfriend of Asmodeus. After a fight between them, she pulls Mammon, Leviathan, Beelzebub, Solomon, Asmodeus, and MC into the painting. Diavolo and the rest of the members of the group decide to continue the tour after he asks Lucifer if he is sure it is okay to leave them. When the missing party returns in time for dinner Diavolo warns them, Asmodeus especially, to be careful in the castle as there are a number of items with suspicious histories.
The next morning, on day two of the retreat, Diavolo chimes in on a side conversation regarding Mammon's all-night lecture from Lucifer, saying that it was fun for him to watch. This causes some further guessing about what might have happened with the three of them in that room. When Mammon attempts to group himself with MC during the scavenger hunt, Diavolo jumps in saying everyone should stay with the groups they were assigned for rooms earlier.
Later that night at dinner, he joins the discussion about the Celestial Realm food made by Luke when he offers his portion of the dinner after Beelzebub asks for more. Once the meal is finished Diavolo signals for the next activity to begin, the dance portion. Solomon casts a spell that summons guests from all over the Devildom to fill the hall.
When an argument breaks out in the shared room of Asmodeus, Simeon, and MC, the commotion brings everyone else to the room, including Diavolo. At first it looks as though he is mad that they are behaving like that in the castle, but it is quickly revealed that he is only upset that he was left out of such a fun activity. When Mammon accidentally hits Diavolo with a pillow, Lucifer avenges him with a pillow aimed back at Mammon. Overjoyed, Diavolo starts to supply Lucifer with more pillows as he takes aim at everyone else in the room.
After the pillow fight, everyone else has gone to bed except for Diavolo and Lucifer, who are outside by the lake. Diavolo asks him why he is sighing before trying to convince him that he did in fact have fun with the pillow fight. Lucifer explains his concerns about MC making pacts with so many of his brothers, and asks why Diavolo had to choose that particular human for the exchange program. Of course, Diavolo doesn't see it as a problem, and even says that humans and demons bonding was part of his plan after all.

Obey Me![edit]
During Lesson 56, Diavolo has a deep conversation with MC about his childhood: about the death of his mother, how he grew up isolated from the rest of the world, and the story of how he met Barbatos. Whether the other characters know about these things is currently unknown, but telling them to MC signifies just how much he trusts them.

Obey Me![edit]
Diavolo places great trust in Lucifer, considering him his right hand man and also his closest friend. The two of them often spend time together, drinking tea or discussing important matters. Diavolo often drags Lucifer along with his plans, and seems to enjoy teasing him on occasions, like using the chat stickers Lucifer told everyone to stop sending as he finds them distasteful.
He worries for Lucifer a lot, going as far as keeping secrets from Lucifer in order to protect his feelings, even though his decision is disapproved by both Barbatos and Simeon. Once the truth is revealed, it has a negative effect on their friendship, as Lucifer puts some distance between them. Diavolo tries to patch it up by giving gifts to Lucifer and even asking MC for advice on what he should do to earn his friend's trust back.
Barbatos mentions in one of his home screen dialogues that Lucifer is like family to Lord Diavolo. In the chat Hello (Diavolo), he explains sending MC the wrong sticker by saying Lucifer is the only demon who sends him messages.
There is a folder on his computer named after Lucifer, as stated in the event Welcome to the Bunny Show. The folder contains photos of Lucifer that Diavolo took, which Lucifer gave permission for him to both take and keep after Diavolo begged him to do so, as Lucifer tells MC in the chat The Pictures Diavolo Took.

Diavolo told MC in Lesson 56-18 that after meeting Barbatos, he begged him to stay permanently at his side and "threw a tantrum," and refused to become the next demon king unless Barbatos agreed. Eventually he did, but Diavolo worried that he was forcing Barbatos to stay with him against his will. He brings up this event with Barbatos later in Lesson 58-A, and is immensely relived when Barbatos tells him that everything he did, he did of his own free will.
Diavolo thinks very highly of Barbatos. This is evident in the chat High in Demand, when Diavolo insists Barbatos appear on a TV show so that more people can know "just how wonderful" Barbatos is.
