"The only child of The Demon King and the most powerful being in the Devildom. He is also president of the RAD student council."

— Diavolo's Student ID

Diavolo is a demon whose first appearance in Obey Me!'s Main Story and Nightbringer's Main Story was in Lesson 1-1. He is next in line to rule the Devildom after his father, the Demon King. While he is considered a side character in both Obey Me! and Nightbringer, Diavolo was added to Obey Me!'s Intimacy system in December of 2020 as part of the Happy Devil Day celebration. In the later released Nightbringer, he is part of the Intimacy system from the start.

Appearance[edit]

Diavolo has short, layered hair with bangs and a part on the right side. In his humanoid form, his hair is auburn red, but the color turns a more saturated venetian red in his demon form. His skin color too changes from beige in his humanoid form to a darker taupe tone in his demon form. His eyes are a gradient of sunshine yellow (ironically) and pale yellow, and his nails are painted black.

As seen in the official height chart, Diavolo is the tallest of the side characters, and is also taller than Lucifer.

RAD Uniform

Diavolo RAD Uniform full.png

Diavolo's RAD Uniform is similar in style to the standard uniform, however reverses the typical colors of the charcoal grey jacket and red shoulder cape, so that instead his jacket is red and the shoulder cape is charcoal grey. The jacket is also much longer than the standard uniform, and reaches past his knees.

The gold accents of the typical uniform remain, though the ribbon on his right shoulder is blue and white instead of red and white. His pants are still charcoal grey with red stripes along the sides. His belt is completely red, rather than the standard charcoal grey with a red border.

The shirt he wears beneath his jacket is also charcoal grey instead of teal, which he has paired with a white tie. His leather shoes are the standard charcoal grey.

Diavolo's School Uniform is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it is unlocked by default. In Nightbringer, it can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card The Seven Apples.

Demon Look

Diavolo Demon full.png

Diavolo's demon look was first revealed in Lesson 8-8 of Obey Me!'s Main Story, and is his standard appearance in Nightbringer. In this form, Diavolo has a pair of horns with a segmented pattern, and are a gradient of blood red and black. The horns grow outward from behind Diavolo's head before curving such that the tips point inward towards his face. The end points of the horns are covered in gold-colored metal decorations.

Diavolo also has two pairs of bat-like wings, and similar to his horns, are blood red at their bases that fades to black once reaching mid-wing. The "thumbs" of each wing ends in a large spike that has similar gold decorations to Diavolo's horns.

In addition to Diavolo's skin tone darkening and his hair becoming a more saturated red, there are also black, looping markings that appear on Diavolo's chest and back in his demon form, as well as gold-colored markings on each of Diavolo's wrists and forearms, which are similar in appearance to bracers.

Diavolo's outfit when in demon form consists of a wide, decorative black and gold choker with gold accents, connected to a gold chain that runs down the middle of both his chest and back before wrapping around to connect at his sides. The gold chain also connects in front of his chest to a jeweled pendant and several pairs of decorative gold, bat-like wings that join the ends of a black fur stole. He wears a black skirt with gold lining, gold triangle decorations, and gold chains that drape around his waist with connected jeweled pendants. A white and gold cloth drapes over the skirt's front, beneath which are a pair of white pants. He wears black knee-high boots with gold accents and gold soles.

Diavolo's Demon Look is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it can be purchased by using Raven in Akuzon. In Nightbringer, it is unlocked by default.

Human World Look

Diavolo Human World Look full.png

Diavolo was first seen in his Human World look in Lesson 47-9 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a black, collared shirt under a gunmetal grey, single-breasted suit jacket with two black buttons on the center front. The notched lapels have a striped pattern of gunmetal grey and onyx grey. Draped over his shoulders like a cape, Diavolo wears a wine red coat with an onyx grey and granite grey houndstooth patterned lining.

The pants of his suit are the same gunmetal grey as the jacket, and his shoes are black with wine red laces. The tie he wears is also wine red, and has a gold tie clip attached. On his left wrist, Diavolo wears a silver and gold watch that — according to Beelzebub in Issue 8 of the RAD Newspaper — is as expensive as 100 years' worth of roast Roc.

In Obey Me!, Diavolo's Human World Look is an available outfit in Majolish. It can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card What Makes Him Smile.

Personality[edit]

Despite being one of the most powerful demons in the Devildom as well as the Future King, Diavolo takes on a surprisingly fair and compassionate, if not joyous, attitude at almost all times. However, that is not to say he is a soft or lenient ruler, as even without the threat of retribution from Lucifer, all demons appear respectfully intimidated by him.(source?)

Diavolo proves to have much more wisdom than his cheerful demeanor suggests. He shows moments of solemn clarity in which he correctly predicts events that will occur in the future either due to his subtle encouragement or his intentional lack of intervention.(source?) He has the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth and has made a rule for himself to never tell a lie.(source?)

The goals that Diavolo sets for himself, his fellow demons, and the three worlds at large, appear to be pursued with the utmost best intentions. This is evidenced by the fact that so far he has only ever done what he believes is best, with the desire to improve the lives of those he rules over, even if the process is painful.(source?)

Sometimes Diavolo may take statements literally. An example of this occurs in the chat A Task Meant for Levi when Leviathan says that he would "kill" for a new piece of technology to mess with. Diavolo shows great concern for Leviathan's mental state and Leviathan has to clarify that he is not actually having violent urges.

In the chat, Wakeup Shakeup 2, Diavolo mentions that he considers the hour within someone has woken up to be "right after" they wake up. If MC disagrees, Diavolo is delighted, and wonders if it is a difference between demons and humans or if they simply don't see eye to eye. He thinks that the small differences between species (or individuals) are fascinating.

Similarly, Diavolo thinks that petty disagreements are fun sometimes. As evidenced by the chat Envious, Barbatos chooses all the decor for the Demon Lord's Castle. As he and Diavolo have the same taste, Diavolo doesn't ever disagree with his choices. However, in the aforementioned chat, Diavolo expresses envy that Lucifer and his brothers do have differing opinions about how to furnish the House of Lamentation.

Powers and Abilities[edit]

Note: this section may include spoilers.

Diavolo is the heir to the Devildom throne and one of the most powerful beings in the Devildom. As such, he possesses unique and impressive abilities. In Lesson 4 (OM), Satan explained that Diavolo has the ability to "discern whether someone is telling the truth." Diavolo used this ability to confirm MC was not lying to Leviathan during the TSL Trivia Showdown. He also used this ability in the Devilgram The Glory Days in order to successfully navigate a conversation with the at the time distrustful Archangel Lucifer.

Another example of Diavolo's immense power is shown in Lesson 14 (OM). After the Great Celestial War, Lucifer fell into the Devildom. Upon his arrival, he demanded Diavolo save a wounded Lilith's life, knowing he had the means to do so. Diavolo reincarnated Lilith's soul as a human, and sent her to the Human World to live out the rest of her life.

In Lesson 40-15 (OM), with only a snap of his fingers, Diavolo was able to teleport himself, all seven brothers, Barbatos, Luke, Simeon, Solomon, and MC from the House of Lamentation to The Fall.

As Lucifer stated in the Pop Quiz The Final Countdown, only Diavolo is a powerful enough demon to be able to stop time itself, which is exactly what he does in that event. Other than those Diavolo chooses to be exempt, the stopping of time resulted in everyone being stuck frozen in place, and also caused electronics like D.D.D.'s and televisions to stop working.

In the chat Tales of Heroism, Diavolo mentioned speaking with a dragon, which may indicate that he has the ability to communicate with magical creatures.

In the Pop Quiz Calling out to You, Diavolo was shown to have the ability to trap people inside objects. Lucifer specifically mentioned that it would take a very crafty person to pull that off. In the Devilgram The Ghost Ship, it was mentioned that Diavolo also has the ability to seal objects inside of other objects. Diavolo had sealed a ghost ship called the Carouche inside a glass bottle. If the seal was broken, such as if the bottle was shattered, the ghost ship would return to the Human World.

In the Pop Quiz Sun, Sea, and Demons, it was revealed that Diavolo owns a private beach which has its own artificial sun. Diavolo created the sun with his magic, as well as the beach itself. As he demonstrated in the Devilgram Diavolo the Otaku, he is also able to temporarily light up the area around him as if it were day.

Diavolo is capable of transforming objects with magic, as he was able to turn a lion doll into a sheep plushie in the Devilgram Diavolo the Otaku.

Summoning meteor showers at will is also something Diavolo is able to do, as mentioned in the Pop Quiz A Star for You, and demonstrated in the Devilgram Special Star Candies.

In the Devilgram Post-Date Party, Diavolo was shown to be capable of at least minor healing magic. This is possibly an anomaly among demons, who do not typically seem capable of healing magic.

Story[edit]

Background[edit]

Note: this section may include spoilers.

As he tells MC in Lesson 56 (OM), Diavolo grew up very sheltered and isolated. His mother died after giving birth to him, and his father was always very strict with him. He never had the chance to speak to anyone outside the castle until he met Barbatos. After meeting him, Barbatos began to tell Diavolo stories about the outside world, which he liked so much that he asked Barbatos to stay with him. Although this was always refused by Barbatos, Diavolo never gave up. Eventually, he convinced Barbatos to stay by telling him that he would not become the Future King of the Devildom otherwise.

Little is known about Diavolo's past, but his goal has always been to build a better relationship between the three realms.(source?) He had met Lucifer when he was an angel in the past and was quite courteous towards him, despite the high ranking angel's contempt for him.(source?)

After the Great Celestial War, when the brothers fell from grace, he and Barbatos appeared before Lucifer and a dying Lilith in the Colosseum.(source?) At Lucifer's request, he would save Lilith, but in return for the risk of interfering with the Celestial Realm's judgment, Lucifer would have to pledge his loyalty to Diavolo. Lucifer agreed, and Diavolo had Lilith's soul reincarnated as a human.(source?)

Although his father, The Demon King, is still alive, he has no interest in the affairs of the three worlds. He allows Diavolo full reign over the Devildom, choosing instead to sleep at the bottom of the Devildom.(source?)

As a result, it is taken as truth that Diavolo will be crowned as the Future King of the Devildom. As such, Diavolo has begun strengthening the Devildom's relationship with both the Human World and the Celestial Realm through the exchange program, as he believes that the three worlds should live harmoniously with each other.(source?)

In the Wanderers' Whereabouts video Impeccable Service, when asked whether or not he has a Little D. counterpart to himself, Diavolo sadly answered that he does not.

Obey Me!'s Main Story[edit]

Lessons 1-10[edit]

Lesson 1[edit]

In a place resembling a courtroom, MC was confused to suddenly find themselves being welcomed to the Devildom by Diavolo. He explained to them that he was "the ruler of all demons" and that MC had been brought to the Royal Academy of Diavolo, aka "RAD."

He then introduced Lucifer — his right-hand man and the "Avatar of Pride" — who explained the situation further. Diavolo had come up with an exchange program that was intended to strengthen the Devildom's relationship with the Human world and the Celestial Realm. As one of the four exchange students who would join RAD, MC would stay in the Devildom for one year while they worked on school tasks. He then told MC they would stay with Lucifer and his brothers in the House of Lamentation during their time in the Devildom, before he let Lucifer explain the further details of their stay.

It was later told to MC after leaving the student council room with Mammon that Diavolo was the only member of the student council who did not live at the House of Lamentation.

Lesson 2[edit]

The day after MC made a pact with Mammon, Diavolo, Barbatos and Lucifer discussed all the gossiping surrounding the pact. He commented that gossiping was a good thing as it would be harder for a demon to try to steal their soul while everyone was watching them so closely. This brought up how poorly Mammon was suited for the job of guardian and further comments from Lucifer about him being a troublesome brother. Diavolo teased that "the most thick-headed child is always the cutest".

Simeon and Luke interrupted their conversation and Diavolo introduced them to MC. He told them that they were both angels from the Celestial Realm, and while introducing Luke teasingly asked if he was a chihuahua or an angel. He told MC he was glad to see things were going well so far before he left with everyone, except Luke, for class.

Lesson 3[edit]

After MC challenged Leviathan to a contest to see who was the bigger TSL fan the contest was held in the student council room with Diavolo as the judge. He seemed to have fun watching the contest but ultimately didn't have to judge as the contest ended in a tie after Levi attempted to attack MC after their trump card.

Lesson 6[edit]

In Lesson 6-6, Beelzebub told MC that Diavolo stopped Lucifer from attacking them after they shielded Beelzebub and Luke from him. The scene was not shown, but Beelzebub urged them to thank Diavolo for saving them later.

The next day at RAD, Diavolo announced in a student council meeting that there was going to be a retreat held at the Demon Lord's Castle. He told everyone at the meeting that the retreat would allow humans, angels, and demons to interact and spend more time with each other. Diavolo told MC that the castle was where he lived, but he did not comment on any of the commentary from the others regarding the particulars of the castle.

Lesson 7[edit]

Diavolo and Barbatos welcomed everyone to the castle for the exchange where he started by confirming that a solution had been mediated regarding the incident in the underground tomb before he had Barbatos explain the plan for the retreat. When the rooms were announced and Lucifer asked why they were assigned a room together he cheerfully replied that it was a retreat of course.

During the castle tour, Diavolo commented that he hadn't seen the Demon King, his father, for several hundred years and that he was slumbering at the bottom of the Devildom. During the tour, he continued to make various comments regarding the pieces in the castle, such as a painting that was made around the time he first met Lucifer. Diavolo happily recalled meeting Lucifer for the first time, and how awe-inspiring, divine, beautiful, breathtaking, and magnificent he was. He also strangely seemed pleased to remember how he wouldn't even shake his hand when they first met.

Further into the tour, a talking painting interrupted the tour. It turned out to be an ex-girlfriend of Asmodeus. After a fight between them, she pulled a number of the group into the painting. Diavolo and the rest of the members of the group decided to continue the tour after he asked Lucifer if he was sure it was okay to leave them. When the missing party returned in time for dinner Diavolo warned them, Asmodeus especially, to be careful in the castle as there were several items with suspicious histories.

Lesson 8[edit]

The next morning, on day two of the retreat, Diavolo chimed in on a side conversation regarding Mammon's all-night lecture from Lucifer, saying that it was fun for him to watch. This caused some further guessing about what might have happened with the three of them in that room. When Mammon attempted to group himself with MC during the scavenger hunt, Diavolo jumped in to say that everyone should stay with the groups they were assigned for rooms earlier.

Later that night at dinner, he joined the discussion about the Celestial Realm food made by Luke when he offered his portion of the meal to Beelzebub after he asked for more. Once the meal was finished Diavolo signaled for the next activity to begin, the dance portion. Solomon cast a spell that summoned guests from all over the Devildom to fill the hall.

When an argument broke out in the shared room of Asmodeus, Simeon, and MC, the commotion brought everyone else to the room, including Diavolo. At first, it looked as though he was mad that they are behaving like that in the castle, but it was quickly revealed that he was only upset that he was left out of such a fun activity. When Mammon accidentally hit Diavolo with a pillow, Lucifer avenged him with a pillow aimed back at Mammon. Overjoyed, Diavolo started to supply Lucifer with more pillows as he took aim at everyone else in the room.

After the pillow fight, everyone else had gone to bed except for Diavolo and Lucifer, who were outside by the lake. Diavolo asked him why he was sighing before he tried to convince him that he did in fact have fun with the pillow fight. Lucifer explained his concerns about MC making pacts with so many of his brothers and asked why Diavolo had to choose that particular human for the exchange program. Of course, Diavolo didn't see it as a problem and even said that humans and demons bonding was part of his plan after all.

After they had stayed up later than the rest with their talk, Lucifer and Diavolo did not join the others for the Human World brunch the next day.

Lesson 9[edit]

Diavolo ran into Lucifer, Satan, Mammon, and MC in the hallway at RAD. He asked Lucifer why he had not met with him in the assembly hall that morning as usual. When Lucifer replied in a very unusual way Diavolo immediately caught on and asked Satan why he was in Lucifer's body. He deduced that Lucifer was in Satan's body and asked for an explanation of the situation.

Once it was explained Diavolo reminded Lucifer that he had to give a speech to the whole student body sooner than the spell would wear off.

During Lesson 56, Diavolo has a deep conversation with MC about his childhood. He talked about the death of his mother, how he grew up isolated from the rest of the world, and told the story of how he met Barbatos. Whether the other characters know about these things is currently unknown, but telling them to MC signifies just how much Diavolo trusts them.

Obey Me![edit]

Diavolo places great trust in Lucifer, and considers him his right hand man as well as his closest friend. The two of them often spend time together, drinking tea or discussing important matters.(source?) Diavolo often drags Lucifer along with his plans, and seems to enjoy teasing him on occasions, like using the chat stickers Lucifer told everyone to stop sending, as he found them to be distasteful.(source?)

He worries for Lucifer often, and will sometimes keep secrets from Lucifer in order to protect his feelings, such as the "ring" created by MC's unstable powers.(source?) Once the truth was revealed, it had a negative effect on their friendship. Diavolo tried to patch it up by giving gifts to Lucifer, and even asking MC for advice on what he should do to earn his friend's trust back.(source?)

Barbatos mentioned in one of his Home Screen dialogues that Lucifer is like family to Lord Diavolo. In the chat Hello (Diavolo), Diavolo explained sending MC the wrong sticker by saying Lucifer was the only demon who sends him messages.

There is a folder on Diavolo's computer named after Lucifer, as stated in the Pop Quiz Welcome to the Bunny Show. The folder contains photos of Lucifer that Diavolo took. Lucifer gave permission for Diavolo to both take and keep after he begged Lucifer to do so, as Lucifer told MC in the chat The Pictures Diavolo Took.

Diavolo thinks very highly of Barbatos. This is evident in the chat High in Demand, when Diavolo insisted Barbatos appear on a TV show so that more people can know "just how wonderful" Barbatos is.

Diavolo told MC in Lesson 56-18 that after meeting Barbatos, he begged him to stay permanently at his side. He "threw a tantrum," and refused to become the next demon king unless Barbatos agreed. Eventually he did, but Diavolo worried that he was forcing Barbatos to stay with him against his will.(source?) He brought up this event with Barbatos in Lesson 58-A, and was immensely relived when Barbatos told him that everything he did, he did of his own free will.

Diavolo also comments in one of his Home Screen Dialogues that Simeon is the one person he doesn't want to anger.
