"Usually very rational and frank, but once you anger him you better run for your life. He hates Lucifer and is going through a rebellious phase."
— Satan's Student ID
Satan is a demon whose first appearance in Obey Me!'s Main Story and Nightbringer's Main Story was in Lesson 1-2. He has six brothers, and as the fourth-most powerful of the seven, he holds the title of "fourth-born." He also possesses the title "Avatar of Wrath" and is a representative of that sin. As one of the main characters in both Obey Me! and Nightbringer, he is included in both games' Intimacy system.
Appearance[edit]
Satan has layered, blond hair with a part in the middle. His skin is pale, and his eyes are a gradient of teal green and lemon yellow. Like his siblings, he has painted nails, his being kelly green in color. His appearance is in some ways the polar opposite of Lucifer's, such as his light-colored hair while Lucifer's is dark, and a common pose that Satan takes when standing is a mirrored version of Lucifer's. Satan and Mammon and are the only brothers whose final design was not changed after their original concept arts.
As seen in the official height chart, Satan is the third-tallest of the seven brothers, only somewhat taller than Leviathan.
RAD Uniform
Satan's RAD Uniform is the typical charcoal grey jacket with gold accents and matching charcoal-colored pants with red stripes along the sides. His shoulder cape — while being the typical red — is much longer than standard, reaching past his waist. His jacket is also slightly shorter than the standard uniform.
He wears the standard teal shirt beneath his jacket paired with a pastel yellow bow tie. His leather shoes are the standard charcoal grey.
Satan's School Uniform is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it is unlocked by default. In Nightbringer, it can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card The Avatar of Wrath.Satan's RAD Uniform is the typical charcoal grey jacket with gold accents and matching charcoal-colored pants with red stripes along the sides. Satan's demon look was first revealed in Lesson 8-8 of Obey Me!'s Main Story, and is his standard appearance in Nightbringer. In this form, Satan has a pair of black horns with a segmented pattern. The horns first curve down and outward from their base, then curve up and inward again to end with each pointing toward the top of Satan's head.
Satan also has a thin tail with an appearance of interlocking segments, and is shiny black in color with the tip of the tail being a bright neon green. According to Issue 5 of the RAD Newspaper, said tail can injure those who touch it if they aren't careful.
Satan is the only one of his brothers not to have visible markings in his demon form. According to Issue 2 of the RAD Newspaper, his markings are located on his back. Satan is also the only demon shown to have black-colored gleams in his eyes when in his demon form.
Satan's outfit when in demon form consists of a granite grey top with white cuffs, a white collar, and white buttons along the middle of the back. Wrapped around the front and back of the shirt in an intricate pattern is a shiny black ribbon with a kelly green underside, and a black feather boa is draped over Satan's shoulders. His pants are charcoal grey with a sparse pattern of white dots, and he has a studded white belt with a gold belt buckle. His shoes are black with with a lime green border above the granite grey soles.

Satan was first seen wearing his everyday clothes in Lesson 5-20 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a mindaro green, v-neck sweater with a pattern of vertical stripes, underneath which is a dark grey top. Over his shirt, Satan wears a sailor blue blazer jacket with a pattern of three stripes of pale yellow, light grey, and white coming down from his right shoulder. The lining of the jacket is light grey, as are the stripes on the inner arms of both sleeves. Satan wears the jacket such that his left arm is not inside the sleeve, which hangs at his side. The card art for Something to Tell You is currently the only instance where Satan is shown wearing both sleeves.
His pants are teal blue with white buttons running down each of the outseams, matching the white belt around his waist that has gold decorations, but no belt buckle. His shoes are earthtone brown with white soles.

Satan was first seen in his Human World look in Lesson 41-1 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a collared teal blue shirt with black buttons down the center, and vertical stripes of light blue and black bordering shirt's center front. Over the shirt is an pale beige coat, which Satan wears such that his left arm is not inside the sleeve, as he also does with his everyday clothes.
His pants are dark grey, and paired with a black and white belt with a silver buckle. His shoes are a pair of dark grey loafers with black soles. Around his neck, Satan has a geometric patterned tie colored white, dark grey, and bright yellow, and he wears a gold bracelet on his left wrist.

Satan is a lover of knowledge and of possessing knowledge. His room is filled with books and tomes, all of which he has read, and he spends much of his time reading in the House of Lamentation's library. In Lesson 9-7 (OM), he told MC that "Knowledge is power. People respect someone who's well-informed."
Satan also spends much of his time visiting places like art galleries and museums. This is because he wants to do his best to make sure he "grows as a person," as he commented in the Devilgram The Search for Self. He can at times look down on some media forms, such as manga. However, after Leviathan pranked Satan by replacing his book with manga in the Trick Quest Devilgram, Satan read it, and admitted he may have been too critical about manga.
In many ways, Satan is both a loner, yet also a socialite. He spends much of his time in the House of Lamentation or the library reading alone,(source?) and regularly goes places by himself. However, as seen in the Devilgram Why Do People Love Cats, he often makes new acquaintances at the many "upscale" places he tends to visit, and these people then invite him to attend events where he makes even more acquaintances. He commented in the same Devilgram that when people invite him places, he tends to accept, but only if it interests him.
Satan's analytic personality lends to his interest in drama stories, and he is especially fond of mystery or detective stories. In Lesson 12 (OM), he delights in using his skills to solve the mystery of of a murder than happened on a train in the Human World. His ability to predict the way people will behave or how events will unfold can backfire against him, however, when he's proven wrong. Satan is not the Avatar of Wrath without reason, and can easily become angered when things don't go his way. When he presented MC with rare and expensive gems in the Devilgram For You..., his lack of understanding as to why MC refused his gift angered him. Losing a game of chess to Leviathan in the Being the Oldest Devilgram also set him off, presumably because he knows that he's a talented chess player, and became frustrated when he didn't gain his expected victory.
Despite his outwardly assured appearance, Satan can be very insecure. He worries at times that he's too average, too plain, and lacks an interesting personality. He also can feel like he has no interests or attachments to anything as strongly as his brothers do, as he admits in the Devilgram Be You. This may be why he often fixates on cats and cat-related things.
In the Devilgram The Search for Self, Satan admitted that he feels a sense of emptiness inside him that "seems to disappear" when he plays with cats. Unfortunately for him, Lucifer doesn't allow him to have a pet cat. Issue 3 of the RAD Newspaper explains that when Satan was given permission to have a cat in the past, things "spiraled out of control," and the House of Lamentation was filled with cats. While he may not be allowed to have his own pet cat, he
Satan admitted to MC in the Devilgram The Avatar of Wrath that he does not know how to swim, which is a fact he was embarrassed to confess. He apparently learned how to swim at some point after this, however, as he is capable of swimming in the Devilgram A Vacation to Remember.

Powers and Abilities[edit]
Satan is the fourth most powerful demon brother and the Avatar of Wrath. As such, anger is the most powerful emotion he experiences, and it manifests itself in his magic. In the Devilgram Be You, Satan explained that his rage emits a lot of energy, which is too much for humans to handle. In one of Asmodeus's Home Screen dialogues, he said that Satan potentially has the power to end the world if he was angry enough. When Satan became angry in the Devilgram Be You, most of his brothers were afraid of him, which further suggests this might be true. Lucifer is not afraid of Satan's wrath, but as shown in Lesson 26 (OM), he does seem to view it as a threat or danger. During that lesson, Satan became enraged during a food fight in the Ghost Café at Devil's Coast, and Lucifer took action to distract Satan so he wouldn't destroy the entire café.
Satan is also particularly adept at curses. In the chat Assignment 1, when Leviathan asked for help on his curses and hexes homework, Mammon and Beelzebub immediately agreed that was a job for Satan. In the chat How to Make Someone Read a Cursed Letter, Satan sent Lucifer several cursed letters that were enchanted to activate if he tried tearing them up or throwing them away without reading them, thus forcing Lucifer to read every single one.
In the Devilgram The Ghost Ship, Satan used magic to break a ship in a bottle in half in order to remove and repair it, which would have to be done without magic.
Satan does not seem to possess much physical strength. In the chat What's up With the TV? 2, he mentioned that he used to be able to pick up their TV. However, unbeknownst to him, said TV was filled with static spiders, so he needed help from Beelzebub.
Story[edit]
Background[edit]
Satan is the only one of the seven brothers who was not originally an angel. After the Great Celestial War, Satan was created after Lucifer tore off his own wings in a fit of anger towards his Father.(source?) It is unknown how Lucifer grew four of his wings back, as Satan specified in the Devilgram The Search for Self that Lucifer tore away all six of them. Because he was not created until after the Great Celestial War, Satan is the youngest of the brothers. His rank of fourth-born was given to him by the Demon King at the same time the rest of his brothers were ranked, as was his title "Avatar of Wrath," which Satan explained in Lesson 9-7 (OM). In Issue 3 of the RAD Newspaper, Satan was confirmed to be older than Luke.
After Satan's creation, his brothers taught him about the world and how to experience things outside of anger, with Lucifer having the largest influence.(source?)
Satan has inherited some of Lucifer's memories — which are his only direct connection to Lilith — but has mentioned that these memories are spotty at best.(source?) Though he has stated that he remembers the Archangel Michael, he does not remember Lucifer's pre-fall behavior, and was caught off-guard to learn that the brothers didn't always fear Lucifer.(source?) He also mentioned that, though he has no concrete memories of Lilith, he has inherited Lucifer's love for her.(source?)
Obey Me!'s Main Story[edit]
Lessons 1-10[edit]
Lesson 1[edit]
When Satan was first introduced, Lucifer implied that Satan only seemed like a responsible demon upon first impression. He continued that Satan may give a nice smile, but warned that MC should be careful, for it is all an act.
Lesson 2[edit]
In Lesson 2, before MC made a pact with Mammon, Satan and his Asmodeus played, and lost, many rounds of a game of cards with Solomon. After one of the rounds, Solomon asked them why they always put down Mammon. He wondered if they shouldn't be a bit more respectful to him, since he is their older brother. Satan ignored Solomon's questions and relayed the news that MC and Leviathan had plans to make a pact with Mammon. Satan and Asmodeus then told Solomon a handful of stories about Mammon causing trouble for Lucifer.
The morning after MC made a pact with Mammon, Satan chastised Asmodeus for laughing at Mammon's situation, before he laughed at him as well.
Lesson 3[edit]
In Lesson 3, after MC challenged Leviathan to a contest to see who the bigger TSL fan was, Satan and Beelzebub met them in a hallway at RAD and provided some advice. Satan told them that the DVD version of TSL was on season 7 and the books were on volume 8 but that they could get some early knowledge about the contents of book volume 9 if they went to talk with Simeon. When asked why they wanted to do that, he told them that it was in his best interest if MC beat Leviathan in the contest, but didn't explain further.
During the contest, he was assigned the role of providing color commentary. He commented on the difficulty of Leviathan's questions, and had some thoughts about the incorrect answers MC could give.
Lesson 5[edit]
While Luke was hiding in Beelzebub's room in Lesson 5, Satan, as well as Mammon and Asmodeus, questioned Beelzebub in shock when he declared he was done with his breakfast before cleaning the plate. Satan guessed that he had picked up a stray cat off the street and told him that once he was done playing with it he needed to let the poor creature go.
Lesson 6[edit]
Satan later caught MC and Beelzebub searching for something, and when they attempted to avoid answering him about what he threatened to tell Lucifer. He was surprised when they told him they were really hiding an animal like he had guessed, though he didn't realize they were referring to Luke.
After an incident where Diavolo had to stop Lucifer from attacking MC in the underground tomb, Lucifer called MC to his room to apologize. While everyone at the following student council meeting seemed surprised to see that they survived the visit, Satan didn't and told them that Lucifer would not hurt them because it would jeopardize Diavolo's exchange program. When the meeting began, Diavolo announced that he was going to hold an exchange party at the Demon Lord's Castle.
Lesson 7[edit]
While at the Demon Lord's Castle, Satan was assigned a room with Mammon and Solomon. Mammon accused him of having smelly feet in an attempt to get Asmodeus to switch rooms with him, which Satan immediately denied and insisted he just wanted to be in the same room as MC. After they took their belongings to their assigned rooms, everyone met back in the main room. Mammon let it slip that his room had some nefarious plans for their time at the castle, Satan's being to give Lucifer a black eye.
During the castle tour, a talking painting interrupted. It turned out to be an ex-girlfriend of Asmodeus. After a fight between them, she pulled half of the group into the painting. Satan and the rest of the members of the group decided to continue the tour without them.
Lesson 8[edit]
After dinner that night, Mammon, Satan, and Solomon snuck around the Demon Lord's Castle in search of treasure. Satan told the group a rumor about a demonic beast protecting the castle's treasure from anyone with a heart full of greed. Shortly after that, the lights went out and they heard the sound of Beelzebub's stomach growling loudly. They assumed this was the beast from the rumor, and ran off.
During the scavenger hunt on the second day of the retreat, Satan was stopped by Simeon who asked him how his team was doing in the hunt. Satan accused the angel and his team of having plotted to prevent anyone else from winning due to Asmodeus actively putting himself between the other teams and any photo they tried to take. When Asmodeus stormed off, Satan unsuccessfully tried to stop him. Later at dinner, Satan joined the conversation regarding the Celestial Realm food made by Luke. He commented that the flavors were very different than those found in the Devildom.
Once dinner was finished, the dance portion of the night began, and Satan quickly called out Mammon's attempt at pretending to be not interested in asking MC to dance. Later, after a failed attempt to photograph a sleeping Lucifer, Satan joined Lucifer in chastising those involved by telling them that they never learn. When an argument broke out in the shared room of Asmodeus, Simeon, and MC, the commotion brought everyone else into the room, including Satan. When it eventually escalated into a pillow fight, Satan was hit with one and went into a rage that escalated it even further causing everyone to become involved.
After the pillow fight, Barbatos caught Satan eavesdropping on a conversation between Diavolo and Lucifer by the lake outside the castle. He asked Barbatos for his opinion about the conversation they overheard and how MC did not seem to be an average human, citing that not just anyone could make so many pacts with strong demons. Barbatos gave a vague answer before he sent Satan off to bed.
The next afternoon, everyone woke up late from their eventful night and enjoyed a brunch of Human World food prepared by MC, Solomon, and Barbatos. They quickly learned that Solomon's cooking is very unique, in such a way that everyone found it disgusting.
Lesson 9[edit]
After the retreat back at the House of Lamentation, all of the brothers minus Lucifer had a conversation in the dining room. The conversation turned to MC's new pact with Asmodeus, who curiously asked why MC was interested in making pacts with all of them. To everyone's surprise, they answered that they wanted to earn Lucifer's respect. When Mammon and Satan asked why they would want to do that Lucifer, who had been quietly hanging back, joined in on that line of questioning. Before they could explain themselves further Satan announced that he was going to make a pact with them as well, to aid them in their plan against Lucifer.
When Satan explained that his sudden interest in making a pact was to make life hard for "a certain someone", Lucifer became angry and told him to stop. He asked Satan if he truly disliked him that much, and Satan returned the question by asking if he truly thought he liked him at all. Even angrier, Lucifer demanded Satan leave the house which, after more arguing and an attempted intervention from MC and Mammon, he happily did.
During a conversation in MC's bedroom that Satan is absent from, the other brothers explained that during a huge fight with their father, Lucifer became so angry that Satan was born from his wrath. They further explained that even though they all helped Satan grow into who he is, Lucifer was the biggest influence making them very similar, resulting in such explosive arguments.
After that conversation, they determined that making a pact with Satan only because he wanted to spite Lucifer would result in the opposite effect. MC then went to Satan's bedroom to talk with him. Here they found Satan packing to leave the house, and he told them about his vast collection of books. During this, they stumbled upon the Forbidden Book, which he told them to avoid touching at all, as two or more people touching it at the same time would result in them switching bodies.
Satan told MC that books are knowledge, knowledge is power, and no matter the circumstances of one's birth everyone respects a well-informed person. He went on to ask if his brothers had spilled the secret of his birth. After they confirmed this and referred to him as the fourth oldest, he explained that the order in which they were given their demon names was not actually the order of their age. He told them that they were given their names from the Demon King in order of their demonic powers. So even though he was the last one born, he was the fourth most powerful - a fact which clearly bothers him as he pointed out that was born from Lucifer himself.
Satan then asked MC to make a pact with him, as he assumed that was why they came to visit, but MC refused. This rejection angered him and he reminded them that he was not called the Avatar of Wrath for no reason. He threatened to tear them limb from limb and was about to threateningly ask them once more to make a pact with him when Lucifer barged in.
Lucifer told him that he would not allow him to harm a student from Diavolo's exchange program. The mention of Diavolo enraged him further. Lucifer went on to attempt to calm him by instructing him to not give in to his rage. The statement enraged Satan still further, and he implied that such a statement was hypocritical coming from Lucifer. Books began flying between the two of them in a fight, and before long the Forbidden Book was added to the mix and both demons laid hands on which caused them to switch of bodies.
Satan, in Lucifer's body, was confused to find himself looking at himself but they quickly determined that the book they both touched was one that caused them to swap bodies. They went to the music room where they explained to the other brothers the nature of the situation. Satan started to do some impressions of Lucifer that caused the brothers to laugh. They checked the literature on the book and found that it lasted for several days. After Leviathan expressed jealousy that they would be able to skip classes in the meantime, Lucifer shot back that they would still attend classes as not to alert Diavolo to the issue.
Due to the damage that Satan could do while in Lucifer's body, Lucifer demanded that he stay by his side at all times until they were back to normal. To ensure this, Lucifer told him that he would have to stay in his room in the meantime, but Satan refused this. After the other brothers chimed in about staying or not staying in their rooms, it was decided they would stay in MC's room until they were back to normal.
Lucifer held a meeting in MC's bedroom to lay down some ground rules with Satan for the time they spent in each other's bodies. Mammon and Asmodeus also attended and attempted to cause some trouble with Satan and Lucifer's body. The following day at RAD, the swapped brothers immediately ran into Diavolo who asked why Lucifer had not come to the assembly that morning. Satan quickly made it clear that he was himself in Lucifer's body, which prompted Diavolo to ask about the circumstances.
Later in MC's bedroom, Leviathan and Beelzebub hung out with Satan as he took advantage of being in Lucifer's body to say strange things. When asked why they were there by Lucifer, they had let it slip that Mammon and Satan were taking advantage of being more powerful than Lucifer while in Satan's body to get up to no good. Satan reportedly interviewed Lucifer to the RAD Newspaper saying he would fund them for a bribe. Lucifer and Satan then argued about who gets the bed and eventually fell asleep but proceeded to talk in their sleep which kept MC up.
Lesson 10[edit]
Satan was pulled into the virtual world of a dating sim called Dogi✩Maji✩Memorium. Inside he found that the curse that caused him to swap bodies with Lucifer was temporarily nullified. He and Lucifer quickly found Leviathan, Mammon, and MC in a classroom and correctly assumed they were the culprits for the current situation, so Lucifer demanded answers from them. Leviathan explained to the others what they had to do to win the game and return to their world. He had made MC the heroine, meaning everyone had to compete to increase their intimacy score with MC and get them to accept a love confession. Satan jumped at the chance to compete against Lucifer and prove himself better. He confidently told MC that they would naturally fall for him and choose him in the end.
In between classes, MC bumped into Satan due to carrying too many books that they had been delivering for a teacher. Satan complimented them on being kind enough to run an errand like that, and after blushing he somewhat begrudgingly offered to help them carry some. As a result, MC could choose to declare that interaction as resulting in his intimacy score going up or down.
On the evening before the final night of the game, Satan asked MC into the hall to apologize to them. He told them that it was because of his fight with Lucifer that they were put into such a chaotic role stuck in the video game. MC could choose to call out to him after he turned to leave, if they do so they talk further out in the quad. Outside, MC told him that he doesn't have to force himself to like someone that he doesn't and that Lucifer didn't see him as a child as much as he thought. Satan replied that no one had ever told him that he didn't have to like someone he didn't and that it was a refreshing point of view.
On the final day of the game, it turned into a monster survival game. After they defeated all the monsters, the final boss spawned on the rooftop, which turned out to be Cerberus. At first, Lucifer was not able to tame him, but after seeing Cerberus about to attack Satan, Lucifer was able to successfully tame him, after he hurled a string of censored threats at him, and the game ended.
Back in Leviathan's bedroom, Satan found himself back in Lucifer's body. Leviathan suggested they stay in the game until they changed back in the real world. After Mammon pointed out that that idea was not a good one as Cerberus could attack them again, Satan surprisingly stated that he wouldn't be worried as he would have Lucifer with him. When Lucifer offered to teach him how to tame Cerberus Satan continued to surprise and compliment Lucifer by saying that was something only he could do, but perhaps he could since he was once a part of him, something he previously hated to be reminded of.

Relationships[edit]
This section covers the relationships Satan has with each of the characters from Satan's point of view.
Main Character[edit]
See also MC's POV
Obey Me![edit]
Originally, Satan viewed MC as a way to annoy Lucifer, and fed into MC's antics for this purpose.(source?) After a series of events in the middle of Season 1, Satan credited MC for improving his understanding of and relationship with Lucifer, and values them greatly for it.(source?)

Lucifer[edit]

Obey Me![edit]
Satan shares a complicated relationship with Lucifer. Being "born" from Lucifer's anger, Satan spent a lot of his life trying to become his own person, and detach himself from Lucifer as much as possible.(source?) He dislikes being compared to Lucifer or cooperating with him,(source?) though when it comes down to it, they can work together efficiently, as shown in The Escorts's Devilgram.
According to the chat A Grimm For Your Thoughts? 1, it is implied that Satan's antagonistic behavior towards Lucifer is a sort of impulse or compulsion. He stated that he'd like to stop dedicating so much time to Lucifer, but immediately afterwards began to scheme about his next prank.
Through Lessons 9 to 12, where Satan swapped bodies with Lucifer accidentally, his feelings about Lucifer seemed to change a bit. His perspective further changed after he met with Lucifer back when he was still an angel in season 3.(source?) Furthermore, Asmodeus mentioned on several occasions that Satan actually likes and looks up to Lucifer.(source?) Despite that, however, he still continues to come up with ways to prank or annoy Lucifer.(source?)
In Lesson 39-4, after Lucifer recovered from his memory loss, Satan had clearly been concerned for his well-being, but denied it when Asmodeus brought it up.

Mammon[edit]
See also Mammon's POV
Obey Me![edit]
In general, like the other brothers, Satan finds Mammon annoying.(source?) In particular, Satan is annoyed by Mammon's tendency to be loud, and his inability to keep a secret.(source?) In the Pop Quiz Sun, Sea, and Demons, Satan took a picture of Lucifer in his swimwear that he planned to use for blackmail, and Mammon wanted to use to make money. Mammon ended up saying this loudly enough for Lucifer to hear. When Lucifer confronted them, Mammon spilled the beans, which irritated Satan.

Obey Me![edit]
Satan and Belphegor typically get along well because they share the common goal of annoying Lucifer. In Lesson 17, they founded the "Formerly Anti-Lucifer League," and often work together to plot Lucifer's downfall.
Belphegor also likes to sleep on Satan's lap, as said in the chat A Kind Brother. Satan claimed that this is annoying, but he still allowed Belphegor to sleep instead of pushing him off or waking him up.

Solomon[edit]
See also Solomon's POV
Obey Me![edit]
Satan and Solomon get along because they have many things in common, including a mutual love of cats.(source?) This is a common topic that comes up in their group chat Cat(3), which they also share with MC. Another common topic of the chatroom is TV shows. Satan often schedules meetings at Café Lament or Cat's Eye because he wants to share his thoughts on the episodes with Solomon. Similar situations occur when Satan reads a book he likes.(source?)
Satan also seems to think that Solomon is good at solving problems. In the chat Beel's Eccentric Behavior 1, Satan texted the group chat to ask for advice because he noticed that Beelzebub was behaving strangely.
Satan also values Solomon's intellectual prowess. In the chat The Intellectual Group, Satan, Solomon, and MC had been assigned a group project, and Satan was very impressed with Solomon's ability to read the language on an ancient manuscript. He then claimed that he needed to work harder if he wanted to catch up to Solomon.
In the chat An Ancient Text, it was revealed that Solomon taught Satan how to read ancient writing from the Human World. Solomon also brought Satan an ancient book of magic, and Satan was impressed that Solomon remembered that he wanted to read it, as they had talked about it a long time ago.

Obey Me![edit]
Satan's only memories of Michael are from Lucifer's eyes.(source?) However, when asked about Michael in Lesson 43-19, Satan responded that Michael has a presence that's difficult to put into words, but that he "was everything humans imagine an angel to be and more."
