The Three Worlds[edit]

Exclamation mark.png This section needs more info!

In the Obey Me! universe, there are three main locations: the Devildom, the Celestial Realm, and the Human World. They are commonly referred to as simply "the three worlds."

Universe's Time Setting[edit]

The exact time period that Obey Me! takes place in is never specifically mentioned, though there are some references to time that can be used as guidelines. For example, in Lesson 1-13 (OM), Leviathan mentioned that The Tale of the Seven Lords had a theatrical version released in 2015. This likely means that MC first became an exchange student in the Devildom in 2016 at the earliest, though the time could also be much further into the future than that.

The time period for the beginning of Nightbringer is also not specifically mentioned, though if MC asks Asmodeus in Lesson 1-14 (NB) how long the brothers have been in the Devildom, he replies "since the end of the Great Celestial War," which he adds was "maybe a year [ago]." This point in time is at least several thousand years earlier than MC's original arrival as a RAD exchange student, given Satan's age and his creation being after the Great Celestial War.

The Brothers' Ages and Birth Order[edit]

As the seven brothers were once angels and are now demons, they have a much longer lifespan than humans do. They are known to be at least several thousand years old, as Asmodeus commented in Lesson 5-14 (OM) that "[his] memory goes back at least 5,000 years." Mammon also claimed in Lesson 11-7 (OM) to be "way over 5,000 [years old]." While Lucifer did angrily say in the Devilgram Healing Lucifer that MC shouldn't treat him like "[he's] not ten million years older than [them]," the context seems to imply he was being hyperbolic.

Satan is actually the youngest of the seven brothers, as he was not created until after the Great Celestial War. He is at least a few thousand years old, however, as in the Pop Quiz Let the Games Begin!, Satan commented that he and his brothers had not lied down together in the same room for "at least a few thousand years." In Lesson 9-7 (OM), he explained his rank of "fourth-born" was given to him by the Demon King just like the rest of his brothers. These ranks are based on each brother's relative power when compared to his siblings. In Issue 3 of the RAD Newspaper, Satan was confirmed to be older than Luke.

Although Beelzebub has the rank of "sixth-born" and Belphegor is "seventh-born," the two are actually the same age. According to Beelzebub in Lesson 5-4 (OM), he and Belphegor were created by their Father at the same time, which is why they are considered twins. In the Devilgram Unspoken Feelings, Beelzebub suggested that they're both technically the youngest brother. However, Belphegor said that Beelzebub was created just a tiny bit before he was, thus making him older.

Dark Delusions Syndrome[edit]

As explained in the Pop Quiz Sacrifice of Darkness, Dark Delusions syndrome - scientifically known as "Sacrificious Grudgius Syndrome" - is a particularly infectious sickness that sweeps through the Devildom once every few years. It is known to affect demons, angels, humans, and reapers as seen both in the mentioned Pop Quiz and in the multiple Devilgrams including Damaging Dark Delusions. According to Satan, once one person catches it, "everyone else is as good as gone." Sacrificious Grudgius Syndrome is also mentioned in one of Leviathan's Nightbringer Home Screen lines.

The main symptoms of Dark Delusions syndrome are brooding thoughts, overdramatic fantasies, and outbursts of flowery language typical of the chūnibyō character trope. Leviathan described the symptoms as similar to a young person in the Human World going through their "cringey phase."

The effects of this sickness wear off on their own after around two weeks. However, it is possible to be cured sooner by wholeheartedly embracing the Dark Delusions. Because of this, Leviathan tends to be cured the fastest, with his last sickness often only lasting three days. Lucifer is typically unaffected by the Dark Delusions, but a powerful strain was once able to infect everyone, including Diavolo and Barbatos.

Outbursts of the Dark Delusions can occur even after being cured. The "less attuned" one is to the disease, the more likely they will experience after-effects.
