"Mr. Dark and Moody, full-time otaku and shut-in. His goldfish Henry is his (only) friend."

— Leviathan's Student ID

Leviathan is a demon whose first appearance in Obey Me!'s Main Story was in Lesson 1-7, and whose first appearance in Nightbringer's Main Story was Lesson 1-1. He has six brothers, and as the third-most powerful of the seven, he holds the title of "third-born." He also possesses the title "Avatar of Envy" and is a representative of that sin. As one of the main characters in both Obey Me! and Nightbringer, he is included in both games' Intimacy system.

Appearance[edit]

Leviathan has short, indigo hair styled in a bowl cut, with longer bangs that sweep towards the left. His skin is pale, and his eyes are a gradient of tangerine orange and indigo. His nails are most often painted indigo, as shown in most of his card art (the exception being Like Two Peas in a Pod) and most of his outfits. However, in his sprites for his RAD Uniform and his Everyday Clothes, his nails are cyan, as shown in RAD (Envy). This makes Leviathan and Asmodeus the only two of the seven brothers with varying nail colors.

As seen in the official height chart, Leviathan is the fourth-tallest of the seven brothers, only somewhat shorter than Satan.

RAD Uniform

Leviathan RAD Uniform full.png

Leviathan's RAD Uniform is the typical charcoal grey jacket with gold accents and matching charcoal-colored pants with red stripes along the sides. Similar to Mammon and Beelzebub, however, the jacket has all of the buttons left undone, and his red-bordered belt hangs unbelted.

The teal shirt he wears beneath the jacket has the top button left undone, and his eggplant purple tie hangs loosely tied from his neck. His leather shoes are the standard charcoal grey.

Leviathan's School Uniform is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it is unlocked by default. In Nightbringer, it can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card The Avatar of Envy.

Demon Look

Leviathan Demon full.png

Leviathan's demon look was first revealed in Lesson 4-1 of Obey Me!'s Main Story, and was the first demon appearance to be seen by MC. In Nightbringer, it is his standard appearance. In this form, Leviathan has a pair of branching horns that begin on the sides of his head up above his ears, then curve upward and inward to end up above his head. All of the branches of his horns have medium blue lines following the curves of the horns in a pattern similar to veins.

Leviathan also has a thin, black tail that is very long, and covered in snake-like scales. The very tip of his tail is the same medium blue color as the marking on his horns.

When in his demon form, Leviathan has several black-and-blue markings shaped similar to upside-down water drops on the left side of his neck.

Leviathan's outfit when in demon form consists of a very dark brown top under a black hoodie with a gold zipper. The hoodie has white waterdrop patterns on the front, back, and right side of the hood, and black-and-blue water drop patterns on the sleeves and top of the hood. The inside of the hoodie is colored medium blue, as are the soles of his otherwise black shoes. His pants are black and dark grey with a pattern of silver outlined diamonds, and are connected to a pair of black-and-white suspenders with gold clips. He also wears a pair of black gloves.

Leviathan's Demon Look is an available outfit in Majolish. In Obey Me!, it can be purchased by using Raven in Akuzon. In Nightbringer, it is unlocked by default.

Everyday Clothes

Leviathan Everyday full.png

Leviathan was first seen wearing his everyday clothes in Lesson 2-8 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a white polo necked shirt with a diagonal pattern of black, white and cadmium blue across the front. The charcoal grey neck of the shirt has a cadmium blue zipper in the front. Over the shirt is a knee-length, charcoal grey jacket with white sleeves, white lining, and two large side pockets. On the right side of the jacket, Leviathan has pinned three smiley face buttons, one each of a smiley face, neutral face, and frowning face.

His gunmetal grey sweatpants have white cuffs with a cadmium blue center border, a sunflower yellow drawstring, and a pair of sunflower yellow lines down the sides of each leg. His shoes are black, gunmetal grey, and sunflower yellow, and around his neck are a pair of over-ear headphones that are dark grey, bright yellow, and turquoise blue. Their alternating turquoise blue and black cord leads into Leviathan's right pocket.

Human World Look

Leviathan Human World Look full.png

Leviathan was first seen in his Human World look in Lesson 41-1 of Obey Me!'s Main Story. The outfit consists of a white shirt with a granite grey collar underneath an orange and Prussian blue jacket with a dark grey border and white trim. It has two separate collars, one each colored aqua blue and dark grey with white trim. The sleeves of the jacket are extra-long, and have orange and aqua blue cuffs.

His skin-tight pants are charcoal grey with geometric patterns of orange and aqua blue around the knees. Over the pants, Leviathan wear a pair of dark grey shorts with an aqua blue pattern on the left leg. His sneakers are Prussian blue with white soles and orange outsoles; the left shoe has aqua blue laces, and the right shoe has orange laces. All of Leviathan's outfit was picked out for him by Asmodeus — as mentioned in Issue 6 of the RAD Newspaper — except for his headphones. They are similar in style to the over-ear headphones he wears in his everyday clothes, except they are colored dark grey, orange, and spring green.

Personality[edit]

Leviathan is a dedicated and wholehearted otaku. His laptop used for RAD student council work sports a giant picture of the character Seraphina,(source?) and in the chat The Guest Room, it was revealed that before Raphael's arrival, Purgatory Hall's guest room was used by Leviathan as storage for all of his manga.

His daily life revolves around anime, manga, and video games. He tailors his schedule to make sure he can watch any anime episodes airing, purchase any new game releases or take part in game-related events, etc. Even during the retreat at the Demon Lord's Castle in Lesson 7 (OM), he's still focused on a birthday festival that will begin at midnight for one of his favorite characters. He also possesses an excellent memory when it comes to the things he loves, as demonstrated when he answered even truly difficult trivia questions in a quiz on The Tale of the Seven Lords in Lesson 3 (OM).

Leviathan is a skilled gamer, and owns a number of game systems, including one similar to the Nintendo Switch seen in the opening of Obey Me!, and another similar to a PlayStation 4 seen in Episode 2 of the anime. He plays all different genres of video games, but as mentioned by Lucifer in the Devilgram Hat Mischief, he frequently has nightmares after playing horror games. He has also created his own videos games, as seen in the Pop Quiz Wedding Vows and in the Devilgram Handmade Present!.

At one time, Leviathan's dream was to become a pro gamer, as he told MC in the chats Future Dream 1 and 2. However, he chose not to start a pro gaming career after becoming the Devildom's first e-sports champion in the Devilgram A Pro Gamer Is Born!

Despite his many talents, as the Avatar of Envy, Leviathan can't help but constantly compare himself to others, almost always unfavorably. He very often insults himself, the most common insult being "worthless otaku."(source?) The results of a D.D.D. app called "Demon Brain Scan" in Beelzebub's Devilgram Unspoken Affection are that 70% of Leviathan's brain is taken up by "jealousy and feelings of inferiority."

Apart from MC, Leviathan is the only character who does not use his own photo as his profile picture on his D.D.D., which likely relates to his poor self-esteem. His jealousy can at times lead to him lashing out in anger, and he frequently uses his ability to summon the sea monster Lotan as a threat.(source?)

Leviathan has trouble feeling like he "fits in", so he tends to call common social activities — and anyone who takes part in them — "normie."(source?) He acts like he hates anything that he gives this term, while not-so-secretly wishing he could participate, as seen in the Devilgram A Jealous Christmas.

His social awkwardness means that he is very easily embarrassed when people are too close to him, or by any physical contact. He comments in one of his Home Screen interactions that he isn't used to people touching him "unless they're 2-dimensional."

Leviathan spends a lot of his time in his room, and often refers to himself as a "shut-in."(source?) He avoids going to RAD as much as he can by taking online classes.(source?) As mentioned in Lesson 29 (OM), his subject with the worst grades is seductive speechcraft, which coincidentally is a class that he can't take online. Despite being shown to have defined abs similar to the rest of his siblings, Leviathan's sedentary lifestyle has left him out of shape. He was shown in the Devilgram Love, Friendship, and Justice to be unable to jump rope and run a single lap around the House of Lamentation.

Despite spending much of his time in his room, Leviathan does go out of the way at times to connect with other people. He explains in the Devilgram Resentment Runs Deep that he likes to buy physical copies of video games so that he can sell them at a used game store, and then share his opinions to the people working there.

Leviathan also uploads dance videos to DevilTube in order to support his favorite idols, as mentioned in the Devilgram Living the Dream. However, he still has anxiety about people seeing these videos. In the chat Going Viral, Leviathan immediately privated one of his videos after it appeared on a Sucre Frenzy TV special.

In the Devilgram I Can Do It Too!, Leviathan mentions that as an angel, he never had an interest in the angel hierarchy or becoming a seraph, and is pleased that now he doesn't have to worry about that since he's a demon now.

Powers and Abilities[edit]

Note: this section may include spoilers.

Leviathan is the third most powerful demon brother and the Avatar of Envy. He is also the "master of water itself" as mentioned in the twins' 2022 birthday event. During this event, Leviathan summoned the sea monster Lotan using the incantation: "In the name of Leviathan, Avatar of envy and master of water itself, I command you! Come forth, Lotan!" Leviathan frequently uses this ability, and it usually results in the surrounding areas being flooded. In both games, this has happened at least eleven other times, including: Lesson 28-5 (OM), Lesson 42 (OM), Lesson 48 (OM), Lesson 59 (OM), Lesson 12 (NB), Devilgrams The Avatar of Wrath and Accident-Turned-Sleepover, Birthday Events Happy Birthday! Dear Leviathan and Happy Birthday! Dear Simeon '22, and chats The Dream and Lotan's Return.

In the third issue of the RAD Newspaper, it is stated that Leviathan has control over magical creatures of the water. This is likely why he is able to summon Lotan so easily. However, as implied in the chat Cleaning the Fish Tank, this power does not give him the ability to speak with his goldfish Henry 2.0.

In Lesson 43-5 (OM), Mammon mentioned that once, when Leviathan had a fever, he "freaked out" and turned Henry into Lotan.

In the Devilgram Golden Drop, it is shown that Leviathan possesses the ability to conjure a trident, and can throw it at great speeds.

In the Devilgram My Cursed Friend, Leviathan explained that he knows how to dispel some curses, although Far Eastern curses are outside of his area of expertise.

Story[edit]

Background[edit]

Note: this section may include spoilers.

As an angel, Leviathan once served as a kind of general in the Celestial Realm, as explained in Lesson 44-12 (OM). However, after the Celestial Realm made peace with the Devildom, he felt like a useless freeloader who had no purpose if he wasn't fighting a war.

He was close to Lucifer and Lilith, for he was willing to fight with the former to save the latter from being obliterated.(source?) At some point after the Great Celestial War — the loss of which resulted in he and his brothers being cast into the Devildom and becoming demons — he was given the rank of Grand Admiral of Hell's Navy, which he mentioned in the chat The Popularity Contest (345).

He has a pet goldfish named Henry in honor of the TSL character of the same name. According to the chat First Thing in the Morning, the first thing he does every morning is greet his goldfish. Solomon claims in one of his home screen dialogues that Leviathan has gone through two goldfish named Henry, but Leviathan denied this.(source?) He also had a former pet snake that escaped named Henry, who he refers to as Henry 1.0.

Obey Me!'s Main Story[edit]

Lessons 1-10[edit]

Lesson 1[edit]

When Mammon was showing MC around the House of Lamentation, Leviathan angrily appeared before Mammon and demanded his money back. Mammon decided to use MC as a distraction and made his escape, leaving MC behind. Leviathan quickly formed an idea to use the human exchange student to his advantage. He drug MC to his room with caution so that no one would see a "normie" coming to his room.

The conversation went on until they reached the topic of The Tale of the Seven Lords (TSL). MC didn't know anything about TSL, so Leviathan gave a very detailed summary of it. He moved on to the point of why he invited MC to his room, Leviathan suggested that MC make a pact with Mammon to help him get his money back from his older brother, as they could force him to do so. To form the pact, Leviathan explained that MC must have something that Mammon would do anything to get: the credit card that Lucifer took away from him.

Lesson 2[edit]

After MC received a hint from Lucifer on the credit card's whereabouts, the two headed to the kitchen and retrieved the card from the freezer. Mammon surprised them by entering the kitchen while they attempted to thaw his credit card in the microwave. Mammon then pleaded with them to give it back. Leviathan negotiated with Mammon that they would only return his card if he made a pact with MC. After scaring Mammon using Lucifer's name, he relents and officially enters into a pact with MC.

Lesson 3[edit]

To gain access to the stairs that led up to the attic, MC attempted to distract Lucifer with the help of Leviathan's TSL Soundtrack. But to get the soundtrack, MC had to convince Leviathan to give it to them. After they failed to enter his room with the secret code phrase, MC decided to challenge Leviathan to a TSL trivia contest to prove who the bigger fan was, after they binge-watched the entire series.

Leviathan was upset with the idea that MC thought that they knew more about his favorite series, so he accepted the challenge. At the competition, MC received the easier questions and Leviathan the harder ones. However, Leviathan was able to answer all of the questions correctly with ease.

Lesson 4[edit]

During the contest MC revealed their trump card which sent Leviathan flying into a rage, which caused him to transform and attempt to attack them. Lucifer was able to stop Leviathan before he hurt MC and ordered him to go to his room to cool down, which resulted in the TSL contest ending as a draw.

Later, MC received a phone call from Leviathan to meet him in the planetarium. Leviathan claimed that MC had won the contest and agreed to enter into a pact with them. After sealing the contract, Leviathan asked MC what their ulterior motive was in wanting a pact from him, so they asked Leviathan if they could borrow his copy of the TSL Soundtrack. He agreed, but was upset that MC only wanted to make a pact with him for this reason.

Lesson 7[edit]

The demon brothers and all the exchange students were invited on a retreat to the Demon Lord's Castle. Once there, Leviathan was roomed together with Beelzebub and Luke. He made various online posts commentating on the retreat as they moved through the castle. During the castle tour, a talking painting of an ex-girlfriend of Asmodeus's interrupted. After a fight between them, she pulled Leviathan, and several others into the painting.

The painting operated as a kind of teleportation device, as everyone pulled inside landed in an underground labyrinth where Leviathan's old pet snake, Henry 1.0 lived. The snake didn't recognize Leviathan and tried to attack the group, causing them to run away. They tried to find a hiding spot until they could figure out a way to get out of the labyrinth. Beelzebub wanted to eat Henry 1.0, but Leviathan insisted that nobody would hurt his old pet. Solomon was able to use his power to make Asmodeus strong enough to tame Henry 1.0. Once Henry 1.0 was fully enchanted by Asmodeus, he helped them find the labyrinth's exit.

Lesson 8[edit]

Later that night in their assigned room, Leviathan showed Luke an anime that made the angel cry and beg Levi for spoilers about the ending. It was implied they stayed up very late watching more episodes together.

During the scavenger hunt, Asmodeus charmed a statue that Leviathan's team was attempting to photograph, keeping them from completing their task. At dinner later that night, he enjoyed the Celestial Realm food made by Luke, despite saying it almost felt wrong to eat nowadays. Once dinner was finished, the dance portion of the night began, and Leviathan joined Satan in calling outMammon's attempt at pretending not to be interested in asking MC to dance by calling him a tsundere.

Later on, Leviathan, MC, Mammon, and Beelzebub tried to sneak into Lucifer's room to get a picture of him sleeping so that Asmodeus would enter into a pact with MC. Instead, they encountered Cerberus and, in their attempt to escape, ended up back in the labyrinth and pursued once more by Henry 1.0. MC, who temporarily had access to Solomon's magic, summoned Asmodeus and amplified his power to charm Henry 1.0 again and safely leave the labyrinth. This led to Lucifer lecturing them, but Asmodeus cut it off by entering into a pact with MC.

When an argument broke out in the shared room of Asmodeus, Simeon, and MC, the commotion brought everyone else to the room, including Leviathan. He laughed at the idea of arguing over a "normie", but the argument eventually escalated into a pillow fight with everyone involved.

The next afternoon, everyone woke up late from their eventful night and enjoyed a brunch of Human World food prepared by MC, Solomon, and Barbatos. They quickly learned that Solomon's cooking was very unique, in such a way that everyone found it disgusting.

Lesson 9[edit]

After the retreat, back at the House of Lamentation, all of the brothers, minus Lucifer, were talking in the dining room. The conversation turned to MC's new pact with Asmodeus, who curiously asked why MC was interested in making pacts with all of them. To everyone's surprise, they answered that they wanted to earn Lucifer's respect. When Mammon and Satan asked why they would want to do that Lucifer, who had been quietly hanging back, joined in on this line of questioning. When Satan declared he wanted to make a pact with MC the others become audience members in a heated argument between him and Lucifer.

During a conversation in MC's bedroom Mammon, Leviathan, Asmodeus, and Beelzebub learned that MC wanted to earn Lucifer's respect so that they could help repair his relationship with Belphegor. The brothers told them the story of how during a huge fight with their father Lucifer became so angry that Satan was born from his wrath. They further explained that even though they all helped Satan grow into who he is, Lucifer was the biggest influence making them very similar, resulting in such explosive arguments. Together they decided that if Satan made a pact with MC only to spite Lucifer, it would have the opposite of the desired effect.

When Lucifer and Satan switched bodies, Leviathan, Mammon, and MC come up with the idea to make the two play a dating sim called Dogi✩Maji✩Memorium, hoping it would help them reconcile. Leviathan registered himself as "Leviachan" and Mammon as "StupidMammon". He then explained to the others what they had to do in order to win the game. He made MC the heroine, meaning everyone had to compete to get MC's acceptance of a love confession.

Leviathan proudly announced that he would win the game. As an attempt to increase his intimacy score in the game, he offered to feed MC his homemade bento box, which was Ruri-chan themed and included a Japanese omelet and some fried shrimp. On the final day, the game turned into a monster survival game. After they defeated all the monsters, the final boss spawned on the rooftop, which turned out to be Cerberus. Seeing how Cerberus was threatening his brothers' lives, Lucifer was able to successfully tames him, and the game ended.

Lessons 11-20[edit]

Lessons missing here...

Lucifer tells his brothers that MC will have to leave the Devildom soon and to spend their time with them before they leave.

Leviathan was enraged after asking Mammon to give him back his money again. Mammon runs away with MC and if MC chooses to hide in Leviathan's room, they will hide in his bathtub. Leviathan will enter the room, badmouthing Mammon, then complain that Mammon took MC with him and that wasn't fair. He then asks Henry what he thinks about all of this, telling him that the thought of MC leaving makes him sad. He then says that "my MC" is leaving before switching back to getting his money back from Mammon. He leaves the room and MC and Mammon are finally able to escape outside.

It isn't long before Leviathan catches up and Mammon ends up leaving MC to deal with him. Leviathan confesses that he doesn't want MC to leave, and that he doesn't want to lose them. At this point, MC can either hug or kiss Leviathan. Kissing him results in Leviathan stuttering and then asking MC if it was an accident and if they lost their balance and stumbled into him lips-first. He couldn't believe that someone would kiss a "yucky otaku" like him by choice. If MC hugs him, he'll become flustered and ask MC to marry him. After one of the options plays out, Leviathan runs after Mammon.

Right before MC leaves the Devildom, Leviathan tells them that he will keep the save data for the game they were working on beating together. He continues on to tell MC that he couldn't tell them how happy he was when they said that he was their true friend. He finishes his turn with that MC is special to him, "really special, in a way that no one else is."

Relationships[edit]

Note: this section may include spoilers.

This section covers the relationships Leviathan has with each of the characters from Leviathan's point of view.

Obey Me![edit]

At first, Leviathan used MC by having them make a pact with Mammon so that he could get back the money Mammon owed him.(source?) He saw MC as a "normie" and wanted nothing further to do with them.(source?) During the "The Tale of the Seven Lords" trivia contest, he became insanely jealous and nearly attacked them out of rage for being a better TSL nerd than him.(source?) Afterward — as per his earlier agreement with MC — he entered a pact with MC due to his losing the contest. From that point forward, Leviathan has regarded MC as his "true friend."(source?)

Lucifer[edit]

See also Lucifer's POV

Obey Me![edit]

Leviathan seems to generally view Lucifer in a positive way. In his RAD Newspaper Club birthday feature, he said that he can depend on Lucifer. Leviathan also praises Lucifer often, such as in the chat Levi's "What If" Segment when he was impressed by Lucifer's power, or in the Pop Quiz Sun, Sea, and Demons when he complimented Lucifer's physique.

However, there are still times when Leviathan gets upset with his older brother. For example, in the chat The Future Dream 1 Leviathan said that after he answered Lucifer's question about what his future dream is, Lucifer laughed at him. Leviathan is also shown to enjoy pranking Lucifer on occasion. One example is in the chat A New Target 1, when Leviathan told Satan that he planned to make Lucifer drink Devil Lohas Milk Tea, a sweet drink that looks like water. Leviathan also participated in Mammon's plan to make Lucifer drink a potion that will make him behave like a cat in Lesson 29-16 Hard. However, when Satan asked Leviathan if he wanted to join the "Anti-Lucifer League", he declined.(source?)

According to Barbatos in one of his Home Screen dialogues, Lucifer is the reason why Leviathan got into anime in the first place.

Mammon[edit]

See also Mammon's POV

Obey Me![edit]

Leviathan is often at odds with Mammon, as Leviathan's shown to have a negative opinion about him.(source?) Despite that, Leviathan still often allows Mammon to borrow money from him, which he later always demands Mammon to pay back. This pattern was first mentioned in Lesson 1, and recurs often throughout the Main Story.

In the chat Debt Settlement 1, Leviathan gave Mammon the ultimatum that he would forgive the money he owed if Mammon watched the horror movie "Kill Death Devil." In the chat Debt Settlement 2, it was confirmed that Mammon did watch the movie, but in the chat Picking Favorites 1, Mammon said he still owed Leviathan money. Presumably, this means Mammon later took out a new loan.

Leviathan and Mammon share a common love for video games, and often play them together.(source?)

Belphegor[edit]

Obey Me![edit]

Leviathan worries sometimes that he and Belphegor are too similar, as he said in one of his Home Screen dialogues. Despite this, he doesn't seem to really understand Belphegor, as in Lesson 34-11, he said he thinks Belphegor has "a weird way of thinking" even compared to his other brothers, and that he "insists on being difficult."

Diavolo[edit]

See also Diavolo's POV

Obey Me![edit]

Leviathan didn't interact often with Diavolo in the Main Story until Lessons 46 and 47. He eventually explained that he hates being around Diavolo because he "never does anything bad." This made Leviathan hate himself even more, because he's nothing like that. Diavolo responded to learning this by listing some of the many accomplishments Leviathan had achieved, and Leviathan was touched by Diavolo's words. Afterwards, they started chatting in the private chatroom Diavolorino, mostly about anime and video games. Diavolo also started borrowing Leviathan's manga on occasion, as he mentioned in the event Happy Birthday! Dear Simeon '22.

Obey Me![edit]

When Leviathan found out that Simeon was actually Christopher Peugeot, author of his beloved The Tale of the Seven Lords series, he became so starstruck that he couldn't bring himself to speak to him.(source?) While his opinion of Simeon had been a positive one before, he afterwards regarded Simeon very highly for creating his favorite story.(source?)

In the chat A Hero's Presence 1, Leviathan took a photo of Simeon working on a new project, and he stated that he worships this photo in his spare time.

Solomon[edit]

See also Solomon's POV

Obey Me![edit]

Leviathan considers Solomon a friend because they are both fans of the "The Tale of the Seven Lords" series, as he mentioned in one of his Home Screen dialogues. This is also evidenced in Lesson 3, when Leviathan invited Solomon over, and Solomon was able to give the secret phrase in order to gain access to Leviathan's room.

Solomon has also helped Leviathan improve his collection of TSL merch by checking websites in the Human World for listings of rare items.(source?) In the Devilgram My Cursed Friend, Leviathan considered asking Solomon to look for listings of the limited edition High-Five Henry figure. In the chat Levi's Intimacy Level, Leviathan excitedly told MC that Solomon gifted him a Lord of Shadow hat that's only available in the Human World. Leviathan claimed that this gift caused Solomon to "max out his intimacy level."

Even though Leviathan likes Solomon, he's also been shown to fear Solomon's power. In the Punishment for a Cheater Devilgram, Leviathan swore that he would never get on Solomon's bad side.
